Full UK COVID-19 statistics for today: county by county we will know tomorrow. At this time 9,076 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Lancashire – here is the full breakdown for every area in the county.
The number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in Lancashire has risen to 9,076. There have now been 6,856 confirmed cases in the Lancashire County Council area, according to Public Health England figures. Meanwhile, the total across Lancashire – including Blackpool and Blackburn – stands at 9,076.
New data published by Public Health England on Thursday, July 2 revealed Lancashire had almost twice as many positive coronavirus cases than previously reported. The jump in cases did not represent a sudden outbreak in Lancashire, but came about as a result of Public Health England including tests carried out in the community – such as in care homes and drive-through testing centres.
The new figures are now based on people being tested both through Pillar 1 (in hospitals) and Pillar 2 (through drive-through test centres and swabs sent by post).
Until July 2, only Pillar 1 figures had been published at a local level, but under the new system historic Pillar 2 data will also be included.
