Wayne Rooney has tested negative for coronavirus but says he is “angry and disappointed” that he will have to miss Derby County games due to being in isolation.
Rooney was quickly tested after he was visited by a friend who had been contacted by NHS Test and Trace before dropping off a watch for the former England captain and subsequently tested positive himself.
Rooney was unaware of any Covid-19 issues and played for Derby in their defeat to Watford on Friday night.
Manchester United’s all-time top scorer has since tested negative but as a contact of someone who has tested positive, he will still need to self-isolate as a precaution.
“Just received the news that my covid-19 test has shown I do not have the virus,” Rooney said on Twitter.
